Rifle made in 1944 by BSA Shirley plant. Mfg code was M47/C. S51 denotes conversion by Holland & Holland to No4MkI(T) status. How about some pictures of the scope and bracket? Are they reproductions?
The scope is poorly tightened down in the bracket. The gap between the bracket and caps should be equal on both sides and front to back.

Enfield, everything else is just a rifle. Unless it's a Garand.

Its a reproduction scope and mount and I am definitely not happy with the mount..
What is wrong with the mount? The one I have on my Savage Less Telescope rifle required some work when I got it. A commercial Weaver 1" scope fit in the rings fine, but the No32 repro would not, it was canted and wouldn't ly flat across the bracket.
I had to file off metal on the front of the forward ring until the scope would lay flat. Then the scope reticle was canted......the slot for the locating pin was not milled in the right spot, so I had to fix that. Finally I got the bracket to fit properly but it took work, definitely not a "plug and play" option

The originals weren't 'plug 'n play' either. Took the best smiths H&H had on staff to set up the originals. They had the pool of experience, skills and expertise, and all the tools and special tooling needed to do the job. Wasn't a cottage industry task back then and it still isn't. Very few among us have what it takes....and I humbly admit to not being one of them.definitely not a "plug and play" option
I know enough to know what I don't really know about No4T's.

Yeah JB, I'm no Pete Laidler either!
I do OK though, mostly by being aware of my limitations.
I rebuilt a Savage No4mkI* several years ago. Had to replace the front and rear pads. Got 4 BA screws from a MG auto garage and filed the head profiles down using a file and a drill press. Then the follow up follies with the repro scope and mount. Still turned out pretty good, but still needs a tweak or two when i get a round tuit.

You've done fine over the years from what I can tell. Knowing about all the pitfalls and avoiding those is half the battle. I had a few round tuits around here somewhere. Got rid of them quick when I saw the backlog of chores in the waiting.
