  1. Default New 98/29 Persian Mauser

Last month I won several Mauser rifles at an on-line auction. One was this Persian 98/29 rifle. I think I made out OK on this Persian. It is a little gunked up with cosmoline, but that may have protected it. The bluing is in good shape, no corrosion anywhere that I can find and the wood, although dented a bit, looks solid. It is all matching

    The bore is pristine.

It has a few cartouches I can't identify

Bore is nice! Rest should clean up well.

I think this one has a lot of potential. I'll post a range report when I can.

I made a quick stop at the range this morning and fired a few rounds through the new Persian. My eyes have trouble with the "inverted triangle" Mauser sights, and the target wasn't the best, but here are 5 rounds of Prvi 8x57 "match" ammo @ 100 yards.

I think I could do a bit better with reloads.

Nice rifle and the bore is super!! You're right, the sights on those 98 rifles are poor and VERY hard to see in low light. With a scope mounted(perish the thought) she would be an MOA shooter, I m sure.

    Thanks, Mike.

I'm going to try some handloads and a better target...I usually have an easier time with a regular black on white bullseye target

Are you kidding me? That is great shooting for iron sights at 100 yards. You really did score with that rifle, it is s shooter for sure. This thread is a little old, so I guess you have had time to shoot it some more. How has it been with different ammo? Say handloads you were talking about?

Many of these rifles were never used or issued. They were imported here back the 60's, again in the 90's. Back then unissued were not uncommen, along with slings, bayo's, original factory test targets.
