  1. Default Rock Island questions 2

    That sounded like Yoda.

I recently picked up a rock island that has a 7/19 SA bbl and a .370975 SN in a FG 1919 stock.
Would this be one of the odd ones Harrison points out or what? Has anyone else seen a serial number with a period or dot in front of it? What does that mean?

    Any help would be good
    Bob.

If you mean is it one that was shipped to Springfield and completed as a Rock Island/Springfield "hybrid, probably not.

IIRC, the punchmark ahead of the first serial number was ONE characteristic of a USMC rifle, but not the most important.

It also has a drilled hatcher hole on the left and a gas escape port on the right. What else should I look for?

At first I thought you were pokin fun. However there are vise marks about 1" from the rear sight collar.

Mike D. No stippling on the buttplate but it is flat. So Do I have a Marine Gun?

It sort of looks that way, but probably no way to tell 100%.

possibly at least the barreled action was in the hands of the Marines.
hard to say on the rest...some stocks will have signs as well.
scant grip stocks will have a nice mill cut under the bolt handle for it to clear, iv seen some with staked guard screws as well.
serialed bolts ahead of the safety lug, rather then on the top of the bolt...bolts likely are blackened. slings brass hooks will be blackened as well.
front sight may be staked as well, on target and sniper rifles, iv seen star gauge markings on the barrel, but no marking at the muzzle.
if it aint broke...fix it till it finally is.
