  1. Default Winchester 1200 Trench Gun for Sale on Cowan's Auctions

    What do you think?

Serial Number appears to be in correct range, but almost looks too good.

Same outfit sold a fake USMC M870 Mark 1 not too long ago for near $10,000.00.

It looks correct and in fine shape. My only quarrel would be the price.....yikes. But that's how auctions go. It only takes two really hungry bidders to get into uncharted territory like that.

If this is too rich, try this one.

    This is real:

Although the realized price is way beyond what I would have thought it would bring, I am not surprised. These shotguns occasionally turn up on occasion, the gov't "loaned" a lot of these to PD's under the Weed and Seed Drug interdiction program, and the PD's sometimes trade them on newer, more modern shotguns. Realistically, these are the last of the U.S. combat shotguns in the classic "trenchgun" configuration, and with the changing gun laws regarding the release of surplus firearms from military stores you can expect these will be scarce. The early ones, in the serial range of this gun, will exhibit the black matte finish receiver as this one does, with the remainder of the gun being parkerized. The later guns are all gray park in color. They are found with smooth buttstock and forend, as well as checkered wood.

    This gun is not:

NOT U.S., period. Where do I start? Most likely a PD gun, with heatshield added.

Makes me wonder what my own version of a USMC M870 Mark 1 would be worth? No intention of selling, but does make me wonder. I was a USMC Cadre at NS Long Beach, Ca. We taught a Combat Shotgun Course there to the sailors, using Mossberg 500's. I was familiar with the M870 Mk 1 from my days as a Guard Chief at Marine Barracks, NWS Seal Beach, Ca. Found a MK 1 barrel, mag. ext.tube and the bayonet adapter at a gunshow. I mounted it on a 870 Express to make my own M870 Mk 1. I used it to teach the Combat Shotgun Course.
