Thread: 1896 krag rifle

    Just was looking at a 1896 rifle that looks like it has not been messed with.what would the value of an all original rifle be. 90 percent blue.receiver and magazine lots of blue.serial 726-- 1897 cartouche. Stock has some small dings but appears to not have been redone.

    Can't help you with a value, but if the receiver is blued it isn't the original finish. The barrels were originally rust blued (browned), but the receivers (and I think the loading gates and side panels) were oil quench case hardened. If the receiver and barrel match, the metal has been refinished. HTH
