  1. Question Swedish M 1894 Carbine in 7x57?

Hello! A couple of days ago I went to a gun shop and I found a Swedish M1894 Carbine for sale. The carbine has seen some action but it is in fairly good condition. I was surprised when the shop owner told me that the carbine is not a 6,5x55 but a 7x57. The guy told me that it is very likely that this carbine was intented for South America. Does anybody know if this is true or if the carbine just was re-barreled and is now sold as 'original'? Thanks for every help.

    Tom :-)

Sure it is nat a Spanish carbine, they do look alike, tho markings would be different. Maybe shop owner has cal. wrong, use a 7m/m or 6.5 m/m bullet in muzzle to see.

there are a number of 95 and 98 based Mauser carbines that are NOT Swedish in 7mm (7X57) and 7.92.

    Spanish
    Chilean
    Brazil etc. etc.

check the receiver bridge markings and go from there.

Another indicator is the "seen action" look.

The Swedes have sat out any conflicts recent enough to have involved a '94.

The Swedish Model 94 was never made in 7x57, period, and any in that caliber have been altered. Similar carbines were made in/for other countries in that caliber as well as 8x57 and 7.65x53, but they were not Swedish Model 94's.

I have seen a 94 in 7mm, the owner shot it and said the brass expanded oversize like it was a 7mm bore with a 6.5X55 chamber so it seemed to be a wildcat rebore. Also have a early long rifle Krag M-96 that a 6.5 bullet will drop thru the bore just like the carbine above. Gary

Those rifles were cheap at one time and many were reworked to other calibers before the 6.5x55 came to be appreciated.
