  1. Default Ruger Mk1 w/6 7/8 barrel

I'm helping a friend sell his Ruger Mark 1 with 6 and 7/8 inch barrel. It is in new looking condition except at the grip at the bottom of the takedown lever there is damage to the blueing about 1/32 wide by 1/4 inch long, like someone tried to force the takedown lever back into the grip. One magazine. Black eagle grip with feathers on the neck. 70,000-71,000 sn range.
What is the going rate for a pistol like this? Any ideas what year it is from? Best I can tell it is 1950's.

    Thanks and happy holidays

Is it a MkI or a standard model? The MkI has adjustable sights. Standard model is fixed sights. The serial number range puts it at 1954. You can see what they sell for on Gunbroker for a price range or go to Rimfire central and ask on the MkI Ruger forum. On Gunbroker, ignor the asking price, check the past auctions for what they sold for.

Yes, Mark 1. It is hard to believe that it is from 1954. It looks so new.

Atlas does your pistol have the red eagles on both grips? sily question, but I just saw a very early one with only the L grip having the red eagle.

when the red eagle was first used, it was only on the left side. They went to the black eagle when Sturm died. They continued with the black eagle untill the 50th aniversery or there abouts.

My friends Ruger has the black eagle on the left grip, but I have seen later mark 1's with the eagle on the right grip only.

When the switched the Frame to the mag button from the right to the left side, the moved tha medalion. The reason is
the grip is weakened by the medalion. The grip would be too thin to attach the medalion.

I literally just picked one of these up last night with the 6 7/8ths barrel. Found that Brownells are the only supplier with the Ruger manufactured 9 round mags in stock and realized that I will have to modify them slightly to avoid problems. Will be interesting to match against my two Mk II Bull barrelled pistols and an M41. I also have to admit that it was doing a Google search on the pistol that made me discover that this site was still operating and my login was still valid. I certainly recognize some old "pseudonyms" from many years ago. Dave_n
