Thread: Belt Sling

  1. Default Belt Sling

    Iv'e seen people wearing a leather sling as a belt, but here is a belt used as
    a sling. This is used US surplus for $3.00. It is plenty durable and I just had
    to add the keeper/slider. What do you call these?
    I was looking for an inexpensive way to make slings for Jr. position shooting.
    I was suprised to see how well it worked. If you have one of these belts,
    loop it the way pictured and see how well it stays adjusted on the arm.
    The swivel end can be marked with a felt pen for quick adjustments while
    changing positions.

    By the way. It looks like the weakest link here is where the end of the belt
    is clamped to the buckle. Those teeth might tatter the fabric. I think
    working some epoxy into the material with a toothpick might strengthen
    it.
    Just a thought.

    Neat. I'd be a little concerned with the buckle scratching the rifle.

    Wink Candle wax;

    A very easy way to strengthen a fabric belt at the ends is to dip it into some melted wax. It can be removed with very warm water. Though I've not used it on any slings, you might give it some thought. (edit) I learned this from a "rigger" in our para-loft many years ago. We use it on the belts of Cub and Boy Scouts to get the most out of a belt for growing boys.
    We actually use paraffin wax.
