M1 or M2 Aiming Circle

Just curious about obtaining an Aiming Circle, M1 or M2 used in the field artillery to orient all pieces or on occasion to conduct surveys.

It may be easier to find a Brunton Pocket Transit. I have one manufactured by Wm. Ainsworth & Sons

The M2 Compass is the military version of the Brunton Pocket Transit.

A "Brunton Pocket Transit" can, indeed, be used for so-called "laying the battery." It is still in production. See here: [[[ http://store.bruntonoutdoor.com/navi...sit-0-360-deg/ ]]] The model shown is graduated in degrees and minutes (I think); the more common military models are graduated in mils... 1/6400 of a full circle.

I once had to lay my battery with an M2 (during a battery test of all times). I was "rescued" by a very good forward observer and an alert chief of firing battery!

The M1 does not have a case for the tripod but the M2 is totally complete. I will have more and more militaria and US optics on Ebay shortly including these pieces. I will shortly arrive at an asking price. Bear in mind these items are rare and serviceable. The M2 is by Wild-Heerbrugg.
