    Default Is this WWI or WWII?

    Brass hat emblem with screw-type fastener. Is this WWi or WWII? Also, is it for enlisted or officers?

    WW1 Enlisted.Used from aprox.1917 till the reintroduction of gilt insignia in 1923.When new it would have been a blackened bronze finish.

    The uniform regulations of 1912 authorized the wear of this enlisted ornament on the service cap. The 1912 regulations eliminated the wear of branch insignia on the service hat and nothing was worn, except the hat cord, until the authorization to wear distinctive insignia in the 1920s.
