This was a nice mount from Brass Stacker. Solid attachment, but you can still use the iron sights. I had to add a cheek pad to get my eye level with the scope, but that was a simple fix.

Me too, in 1990. Dropped off on the front porch in a plain cardboard box. $275.00.
The brown-water sanitary tanks on the 616 Class ballistic missile subs were blown to sea with high-pressure air. This was accomplished by the Forward Auxiliaryman from the pipe tunnel below decks in...
The engineering spaces on a nuclear sub (everything aft of Frame 85) were normally off-limits to non-nuclear personnel, except when someone was getting qualified in submarines. The start of every...
There were two Marine jokes that always went around our sub when we were tied up outboard the tender in Rota.
A Marine and a sailor are taking a pee in a bar. The sailor buttons up his 13-button...
I went to submarine school in New London after completing two years of nuclear training. I was a third class petty officer (NCO). While we were waiting for school to start they sent us the base's...
Interesting that you brought that up. Back then the Navy had what they called a variable reenlistment bonus, which was designed to entice personnel with certain skills to reenlist. I forget what...
I was set to follow my Dad's footsteps and join the Air Force in July '63, but the Navy recruiter called and told me about the submarine nuclear power program. If I passed all the tests, I'd spend...
Yep, the sub tender at Rota, Spain would get underway once a quarter to clear the coffee grounds, but, more importantly, to allow the crew and squadron personnel to continue collecting pay for sea...
The way I looked at it was most of the draft dodgers were probably people I wouldn't want covering my ass anyway, so it's good that they left the country.
It was bad enough when all the...
We loaded 25-lb cans of coffee before going out on patrol. We stored more coffee than we did food or spare parts. I think we drank so much coffee because the cups were too darn small and we had to...
Being a Machinist's Mate, we ran the fresh water stills on both surface craft (targets) and submarines. The Navy used a powder called Hagevap to remove scale from the tubes and improve efficiency. ...
Spent most of my career under the Med running at 4 knots and 400 feet, rigged for patrol quiet. Only excitement was shadowing Russian submarines for days at a time. Oh, for the glory days of the...
As an Air Force brat and Navy veteran, I love this thread. I was born on Muroc AAFB in California (now called Edwards AFB) in 1945. My Dad got out after the war ended, but rejoined the Air Force...
I'm just a shooter who likes WWII rifles. I'm more interested in function over looks; however, I don't want junk either. If there are better sources than Mitchell's, please let me know.
And thanks...
I'm interested in buying a K98k and wanted to know if the advertisements I see for Mitchell's Mausers are legit. I've had good experience purchasing rifles online, but wasn't sure if the glitzy...
