The only part on the Winchester that is not correct is an unmarked milled ejector. I assume the original broke at some time. I have read that this is not that unusual.

Does any know what these handguard markings are? Appears to be "SA?" Not sure about that last letter. The rifle appears to be unfired - still has cosmoline in recesses.
PS: It is a Remington.

Thanks. I plan to do some experimentation next week.
Thanks.
I'm looking for 8x57mm Mauser load data that will work well with the original iron sights. Any suggestions on where to start with bullet weights, powder type and charges? Thanks!
Thanks for the info!
Who did the work to refurbish WW1 M1905 bayonets into M1942 configuration (i.e., parkerized, plastic grips, M3 scabbard). How many were done?
Funny stuff. That said it was painful to watch the southpaw work the bolt.
Great discussion! Clearly the forensic evidence of matching cases to carbines has been brought into question. If I understand correctly, having a carbine "tested" to see if there is a match to cases...

I have not seen one like this in quite some time. See Gun Auction #13357674.
Has anything been learned of late regarding the script N marking on the M1866?
Will this information be documented in your book?
Thanks for the information. Is the "Custer era" considered before SN 50,000 or 43,700 or some other SN?

I will be interested in buying your book when it comes out. I have an early M1873 carbine. I like to research the items in my collection - it gives them more meaning to me from both a historical and...
Is there a good reference that documents the known serial numbers of US M1873 carbines issued to the 7th Cavalry? From what I have seen, it appears to be an area of active research.
Try Malcolm Addoms at antiqueoptics.com. I just talked with him today. He has a large number of B&L prisms. He's been restoring antique and vintage optics for at least 25 years. He has done great...

I have 3 of the M48/NRA style spotting scopes. I have never attempted to take them a part. All 3 work perfectly with great optics. I use them at the shooting range and have always been careful with...
