My guess and only a guess is that the blade didn't make it completly into the parkerizing solution.

Correct. I just bought a 1905 RIA bayonet dated 1906 . It came with a 1910 canvass scabbard with RIA stamped on the back of the tip. Not sure if this was done throughout production,
