Unfortunately the front sight insert was missing, so I made one a bit tall on purpose out of a half euro coin. I'll be able to file it down to where it will zero at 100 yards hopefully. With the...

thanks for that info on close serial numbers...and yes mine has the relined barrel to .50-70. Also I got the dies in the mail so loaded up the 10 cases I have(Dixie head stamped) with a 450 gr .515...
I got an 1859 Sharps Carbine with the .50-70 conversion. Found many years ago in an attic then hung on a wall for who know how long. when I got it it was in sad condition with lots of surface rust...
Hmmm...so does that make me number 14?...My M1(looks more like an MI.)barrel is marked 10-26 and it has the warning.
Jim
I served with non-citizens in the Navy during the 70's. I personally believe that if you serve a minimum of 6 years ACTIVE duty you should get your citizenship papers along with your Honorable...
Yep, has the the two horizontal cross hairs...guess I'll take it to the range soon and play with it and maybe figure it out. Either way it will be fun.
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks Bruce, figured something along that line but was/is hoping someone who has/had one of these will chime in. My guess is a deer chest at 100 yards.
Jim
Ok...Got a 1953 Winchester Model 70 in .30-06 and put an old weaver KV scope on it that has the rangefinder reticle. Optics are nice and clear, but I do not know how to use the rangefinder. Anyone...
I know where one with an 8 3/8 barrel is....also has been high polished. I personally do not have it, but's it's in a local shop.
Jim
WOW!!! very nice, thanks for sharing.
Hmmm....that 5 pointed star...I would like to know myself. Over the years there have been photos and discussions, but it appears to be VERY elusive. I happen to have an '03 with it on the barrel....
JB, ok...I was always under the impression that there were only about 3600 rifles with the "C" prefix.....so.... do tell if you can what the actual highest number was, please.
Jim
JB, the x is a 5.
What's the highest serial number anyone has seen or heard of with the "C" prefix? Also what would have been the first?
Not sure if this has been asked before but, is there a known number of how many SC 03A3's have the "C" prefix serial number? How many are known to still be around? VI Shooter's page doesn't list many...
Lucky you....right now I'm down to 2 1903's.....my SC and a Springfield that turned out to be a USMC sniper.
Jim
Z prefix Remingtons...AND consecutive serial numbers.......NICE!! You going to build up the receiver?
Jim
Cosine26, I've been lucky to have served on the USS Gridley DLG-21 and also a couple of years ago got to go on a day cruise on the new USS Gridley DDG-101. Sure was strange to see female sailors on...
Rebound,
It's the USS Gridley DLG-21...I was on her from '71 thru late '74...
Jim
That's what I thought also....but...if you look at m1903rifle's comment in your thread about SC rifles he shows a picture of reciever # C3713068.
Jim
Does anyone know how many rifles have the "C" prefix? I always thought less than 5000 were so marked. And yes I would love to find the Remington that matches mine. C3711425
Jim
Could it be a ship's hull number? USS Greer DD-145
Just a thought.
Jim
I have two for my FR8...I see them all the time at gun shows...I wouldn't think they are very collectible and not really expensive, got my last one for 35.00.
jim
Thanks for the info...that would answer why I've never seen one like this before. Also whoever did it did a good job.
The sheath has a shape to it where you can see where the end of the blade goes...
