I use some of those cheap throw away birthday cake candles.
The type that you get 20 or so in a box.
In my shop, I keep a wooden dowel mashed up on one end that sits in a small tub of kerosene....

You fill them with lapping dust and use them to hard fit parts.
I bet one of them is made of cast iron.
If they have been used a lot you may see them worn some instead of perfectly flat.
