I swear, I must be the dyslexic surveyor.

I've been getting him after 4:30 and around 8 am
I talked to Bobby, he seemed to know where I needed to bend it, last 10 inches or so. He also let me know it was ok to go ahead and bend it and to go easy as it would only need a thousandth or 2 for...
Tom, thanks, that sounds reasonable.
Seriously? a grandson of uncle Dick is in Camden? That's my backyard. It is very, very beautiful, albeit a bit touristy. If you did not know, Peyton Place was filmed there.

MY UNSOLICITED .02?
Upgraded 1892's are fairly common and for far less money. Like under a grand and without the duffle cut. The nice thing with this one is that the front site is ready for an...
I'll be up front and let you know that I did not dive into the the details in this thread after tha sking price for this rifle. In my humble opinion, at 2150, it is more than double, a lot more than...
I just got my 1868 back from Bobby Hoyt. The bore is a joy to behold.
I am shooting the Lee 450 grain copy of the government bullet over 60 grains of 60+ year old Dupont FFg and with the new bore...
Some simple rules I live by
I generally find 1896 sights on 1896 rifles, but not always. If an 1896 does not have an 1896 rear sight I look a little harder at the rifle.
Regarding 1898 rifles:...
I'm looking for a 45-70 barrel, cutdown rifle barrel would be just fine as long as the bore is good. Doing it for a friend.
Thanks,
Mark
don't bother taking it down just photo it as it is with all the things already asked for.
Regards,
Mark
I was gonna say black but now I'll have to check! It's on a rifle with an orange stock and it matches, I've stretched out maybe ten bobbed stocks now and this one I blew the color on, the orange...
Greetings, all.
I took the butchered/altered handguard and put it on my less than perfect 1902 made 1898 Rifle. From that less than perfect rifle I took the unmolested 1898 handguard and installed...
This has a perfect circled P and a strong JSA 1903 cartouche. I have no doubt that the prior, civilian owner altered the 1898 handguard to fit his 1901 rear sight.
The gentleman that handed the...
Thank you! This late 1898 is really nice, better than all the others I own since it did not come to be bobbed. There is one wart: the 1898 hand guard was modified for a 1901 rear sight. I have the...
If any of you have access to the SRS data would you please check out rifle 474807?
I was gifted this rifle today. Rifle is in nearly excellent condition.
Thanks,
Mark
I simply rub down repeatedly with lemon oil. Not lemon oil soap, just lemon oil. Denatured alcohol will remove the original finish.
Dick,
Thanks for the response. The rifle in question is in the 120k range and I'm not being coy, just don't have it with me right now. Looking at a parts carbine at the local auction house 120k...
at what serial number range did Springfield switch over to 1884 breechblocks?
Thanks for any response!
Mark
Upon being accepted into government service it got the acceptance cartouche, it go the circled P once it was proofed. If re-built while in government service it would not need the cartouche as it was...
what is a forager in good shape worth?
Thanks,
Mark
Many thousands of rifles went through IRAN and the Krags saw a lot of tough service.
I did not know what IRAN was so in the off chance I was not alone it is INSPECT AND REPAIR AS NEEDED.

Is there a cartouche on the left side of the stock?
How bout photos of the bolt open and closed, inside of the magazine? I would like a rifle like this.
Enjoy.
Mark
interesting, you have an 1892 handguard.
