Part of the value would depend on the rear sight. Is it a carbine sight?
How long is the barrel on your rifle? If it's actually dated 1899 It more than likely was issued as a carbine.
Is the action marked 1899 (carbine) or manufactured 1899?
I apologize for no pictures. I have a rule about posting pictures. I can tell you that it is in very good condition. I really feel it has not been shot more than a few hundred rounds at best. There...
The question remains-what's it worth?
$675
Serial number lookup put it in 1978-1979 production. Everything else appears as you listed. Like I said I know Krags and 1903's, but it looks correct and original to me.
To the best of my knowledge it is in original configuration. I found one site that referenced markings and everything is correct according to that resource. I would bet less than 500 rounds have been...
I just ran across a Colt SP1 Carbine. I know lots about Krags but not much about AR15's. What can you more experienced AR people tell me? Reliable? Collectible? Value?
Question for Dick Hosmer. You mentioned the KCA Forum. How do I join? (should have years ago). I sent a check in for my membership some time ago and have heard nothing back.
WTS 1892 Krag cleaning rod. PM for info.
I may make an O3-A4 clone someday but not Krags. I sold the on Bill helped me put together to take care of bills a few years ago. Was able to replace it a couple years ago on a semi-local(drove 70...
You misunderstood Dick. I put it back together as a rifle. Un-altered 92 action in the 8000 serial range. Bought another 96 on a 92 stock/cleaning rod, then another 92 11000 serial range which I ...
Gotta love that 1892 carbine story. My Father-in-law gifted me an "1892" Carbine. What I had was an un-altered 1892 action. I took me 10 years, 3 rifles, and Bill Mook to make it right. Bill was...
I was too much in awe to think of taking pictures. Fortunately a good friend Terry Johansen sent me some great 8x11 pictures that he had taken so I do have something.Terry was a great Norwegian Krag...
I miss those calls too. I often think of what I could of learned from Bill. I learned a lot in the few years I knew him. dick, did you ever get the chance to visit him? His 1892 rack was amazing! I...
That's kinda what i figured. I got the sight years ago from a friend who was a gunsmith. It's missing the elevation spring. I automatically ordered the 1902 spring based on the eyepiece. When that...
Nice carbine! Earlier in this thread I stated I had a loose 1902C sight. The spring was missing so I ordered one. Surprise, I have an 1898 base with a 1902 elevation and bar and eye piece....
Man, I've had one in my parts drawer for years. Didn't realize they were that uncommon. I do need a spring for it.
Dick, did I read that correctly that only 1,000 1902C sights were produced?
Lt. Col. John George who served on Guadalcanal and in Burma with the Marauders stated in his book "Shots Fired In Anger" that his testing showed the .30 Carbine would penetrat a Japanese helmet which...
Bill was a really neat guy. Once he vetted you there was no end to his sharing.
Why limit yourself? You have the beginning of a great collection right there!
Thanks for the reply Dick. Sorry it took me a couple of days to get back to you. Out of curiosity what is the range for BOF rifles? And yes when you come up with an idea i'd appreciate a PM.
