The 4 digits stamped in the butt is a Greek trait. Your stock is possibly swapped from a Greek rifle.

Yeah, similar to the Danish Sirrius sled patrol. Wouldn't be surprised if a few M '17s are still kicking around in Native villages

Quite common, the term is 'tolerance stacking". Either the safety or bolt sleeve is worn to not work together.. Probably the bolt sleeve.
