Dick,
Shouldn't the hammer screw be engraved? (Or is this something that was dropped on the Type 3's?)

You may find that that "penny" front sight will shoot reasonably on at 100 yds.
Trapdoor rifles battle sights were set at 2-300 yds and with the rainbow trajectory of the 45/70 shoot notoriously...
Lyman, Thanks!
Now I'm conflicted. I picked up the L59A1 and a Steyr M95 that has been "DP'd". (FP clipped, Bolt face welded and the receiver ring and barrel breech opened up with a milling cut.) ...
What's a ball park figure for a decent condition L59A1 these days??
Watch out for fakes. There were a bunch of them made up in India 20 or 30 years ago....
Here's one with a single "push forward to set" trigger....

I seem to remember that "The L59A1 DP Rifle. By Peter Laidler." stating that the L59A1 was the last rifle produced at Enfield and should be a part of any Enfield collection.
Was he playing loose...
I have one marked L59A1. It's my understanding that these were originally made as DP's and not just "converted" from an existing rifle.
Is there any market for these??
OOPS! I did.:icon_redface:
But I will still stick with "Why"?? (2 screws and you don't take the chance of messing something up.)
My question would be "Why would you want to in the first place??"
Isn't popping the floorplate loose simpler?
That's what reloading is for... As long as you aren't planning to shoot hundreds of round a day, you can get into a Lee hand press and dies with a dipper measure for less than $50-60. Keep your...
That makes sense! I missed that when I was researching, but the information on these was pretty thin back when I owned the rifle.... Thanks!!
Well, they weren't Krags (The nominal subject of this forum).
Please forgive me for wandering too far from the apparent subject....:icon_salut:
When "lockplate" was referred to, I assumed we had drifted out of discussing strictly military rifles......:icon_redface:
Are the taper pins and dovetails reversed on a left handed rifle?
How about a double rifle with a lockplate on each side??:icon_scratch:
Inquiring minds need to know....:icon_confused:
Years ago I owned a Peabody-Martini in 11mm Turkish made by Providence Tool. It had been remarked with Japanese characters as a "Murata Type 2" or something similar.
My research showed that at the...

One of the Aircraft carriers I was on in 1960-61 was still using a cut-down 45-70 trapdoor for line throwing. (It was probably the USS Yorktown, but could have been the USS Coral Sea)
For the price I could have wished they had taken a little more care to make the trigger guard and trigger area more like the original.
And I guess they couldn't put a bayonet lug on it or it might...
The gun will still need cleaning at the end of the session. I was thinking more of clearing some fouling while at the range without having to carry cleaning supplies.
(Besides I don't think the...
I seem to remember hearing somewhere that adding 4 or 5 grains of a slow burning smokeless powder to a BP load would help keep the fouling down.
Now this sounds too much like a duplex load of sorts,...
Here's a likely candidate.... This one is an unaltered M1892 civilian model but is identical to the military models used in the 1890's

Wait until you try to find a complete clip for it. It is an enbloc clip that technically is supposed to fall out the bottom when the first cartridge is stripped out..
They can be loaded without the...
That looks more like half of the buttstock sloughed off....:icon_e_surprised:
