I bought a used 1903 finger-groove stock from Sarco for a un-bubbizing project. Advertised as good serviceable stocks...the one I received was heavily sanded and needed some repairs and had some...
I messed around with the HT device last night....I couldn't decide if somebody had simply soldered a sawed-off front of a case on the cartridge adapter...or more probably installed a machined brass...
My imgur ain't working right at the moment....
I had left the HT device soaking in kerosene this afternoon...and it opens now! I see how it works too...push it open from the muzzle end and hold...
Found in the dirt at the range...one crusty looking Hoffer/Thompson adapter. This thing appears to be a normal HT cartridge with the exception that it has a brass 'sleeve' attached to the neck making...
I use Trail Boss in .44-40 and .45-70...and indeed it does produce fairly mild pressure in pistol size cartridges. I do know that in larger cases(.45-70) and bigger loads it can produce some pressure...
I tried to buy a new Pedersoli TD carbine off my friendly FFL dealer....he looked-up what he had in it and I bought an original TD carbine online for less than the reproduction cost!
I had some black powder go bad years ago that I had stored in a powder horn. I believe it was Goex 2F powder and the last of my real-deal BP at that time(when the gooberment first made the real stuff...
PCI .30-40 and Remington .30-40 are all I've seen for new production .30 US Krag. I looked online and seems like all the .30-40 ammo and new brass are out of the system now.
PCI might be the...
That's cool!
Well?....at least all the rifles had the trigger-guards on the right way!....I did see a tomahawk with the head on the handle backwards though...
My Eddystone has an obviously Winchester stock(big W on the tip)....doesn't look like normal dark walnut stocks as usually seen on M1917 rifles as it's rather light in color. I asked much the same...
Earlier this week I toured the Panhandle Plains museum in Canyon Texas....lots of firearms and quite a variety of Trapdoor rifles and carbines(also a Ward/Burton carbine!)
Anyhow all the TD...
I own a couple Trapdoor .45-70 chambered originals and a older Miroku/Browning 1886 saddle-ring carbine. I got my TD rifle first. Also started casting 405gr bullets and reloading modest .45-70 ammo...
My newest Trapdoor is a carbine and I pondered the trigger-guard orientation deal myself.
My carbine has the skinny milled-off loop end to the back...about 50% of the carbine pics I see have the...
Books..what's a worthy book or two regarding 1873/newer Trapdoor Springfields?
Carbine accessories like carbine boots and rings...I don't want a carbine boot but have just really grasp the...
huh?...Just saw this topic....wood is beech...flecks in the grain are a dead giveaway. My M1917 has same/similar front handguard. My guess is that these beech-wood M1917 handguards are actually P14...
Work-hardened brass and tough military brass can be a cause the sooty case issue too. Try some fresh brass first if you are otherwise satisfied with your particular load.
Can also put a bit more...
Must be fairly low pressure reloads....lets gas back around the case 'cause the case isn't completely sealing the chamber. Normal phenomenon
Yep...I suppose exactly what the Trapdoor is would be a determining factor. But then...for the most part..the only Trapdoors I've seen are M1873/M1884 rifles(with the exception of one pretty nice...
Collectors don't want rusted Trapdoor rifles...neither do shooters...may as well make bar-stools from them
Yeh...My Trapdoor rifle was a dirty relic that I bought locally(not a gunstore)...it had been an attorney's decorator and upon his death had been badly stored(boiler room..then closet after it got...
They always want $750/$850 for the rusty used rack Springfield 1873 rifles.....these just set on the rack for years and years.
I did see a rarity just a few weeks back...a Trapdoor carbine! About...
Around my area(Oklahoma) it's not unusual to see a Trapdoor rifle or two on the gunstore used rack...maybe a rolling-block Remington on occasion.
Anyhow..almost invariably the old trapdoors will...
Thank you very much.
I remember back when you could get online and run your own SRS check....I had checked a M1903 or two and a Colt M1917 revolver....none directly listed but the serials listed...
