I know Mallory died years ago but I was under the impression the Springfield Research Service still existed?
I just did a search for it and the old SRS site came up with a notice that the new url...
Perhaps remove the metal 'throat/tension flat spring' and insert a shaped piece of hardwood?
It is difficult to say what type of scabbard you have with no pictures, however you may simply have the later 1910 model scabbard with the canvas sheath missing or you may have the leather covered...
Jon, if the Imperial German accemptance stamps are still present on the right side of the buttstock you should find a "B" about one inch high. I think it was supposed to refer to the type of wood...
