Just looks Greek to me.
cplnorton is correct. Unless you have an original rifle, most M1's are usually worth more in parts than whole.
I have a DPMS lower that is steel (I think stainless). Would this gun be illegal?
Are you using a "taper crimp" die? If so, you may be crimping too much and you are bulging the case when you seat the bullet. Try backing out the die a little. (you will have to turn the seater stem...
That makes sense to me. If that's true, I would assume the stock is putting downward pressure on the barrel which it is supposed to. Mine is probably pulling too hard. I would hate to change anything...
Distance was 100yds.
Front sight looked to be std. height. It is marked NM .062
When rear sight is elevated 24 clicks, it looks just like a Garand sight that is elevated 24 clicks. As I adjusted,...
Just got back from the range shooting my "new" M1a for the first time. I used some "ZOI" ammo that was made in Turkey and sold on sale at WallMart for $9.97 for 20. I also shot handloads of 42gr....
I posted for some info on the M1/M14 section. Only one guy responded with no helpful info. He stated that my 150 gr GI pulled bullets and 4895 were not good for accuracy in my M1a.
I just got back...
I'm just starting to load for my "new" SA M1a. I've loaded a lot of 30-06 for my M1's with IMR4895 and understand the burn rate issue. What powders are suitable in the M1a? Are there any pet loads....
That M1a looks EXACTLY the same as mine. Adding up the stuff I traded, I probably paid just a little more than the $1500. it sold for. I'm happy so far....though I still haven't fired it yet.

I am just starting to load for my S.A. M1a. I have quite a lot of IMR4895 and 150gr. "pulled" GI bullets and FC cases. I have loaded a lot of '06 with these components for my Garands and would like...
My RCBS primer arm has a set screw holding the rod (rod spring & sleeve) together. While trying to buy a replacement, all I can find are rods that are threaded into the primer arm. I assume that mine...
I think the big difference was "sun glare" and rain in California. We were not allowed to wear sun glasses or march with umbrellas at MCRD PI.
I have seen quite a few Danish return rifles with the last four serial numbers electro penciled on the bolts. NONE matched the rifles.
I agree that we "snapped in" a lot, but our training rifles were exchanged for "shooters" when we went to the range. (in 1965.. M14's)
Thanks for all the information. Do you remember the feeling when you got your first Garand? I'm having it again.
The seller thought it was a Winchester bolt but I could find no "WRA's" anywhere. Are there any other GI parts that I should look for? Where would the barrel markings be?
Thanks, for everyone's help.
My heel is marked with five (5) lines. The stock is not GI but a very nice commercial stock with no markings.
My bolt is marked:
7790186
66118-DD
Does that indicate who made it?
I just traded for an S.A. M1a. It cost me a nice Garand, an '03 Rem. and some cash. I haven't fired one since '65 boot camp and look forward to shooting it. I have heard the the older S.A.'s are more...
"M14" on Wikipedia has a bunch of info and dates for both army and Marine Corps issuing of M14.
$60.
No need to change the stock. Just lightly sand the butt stock and guards just enough to remove the orange tint. Refinish with JUST tung oil. Birch makes a very nice "Blondie"
It looks like no fools stepped up.
