Just looks like many applications of BLO to me.
Jim Mock's site has info on these. He may have a picture or two posted. I know he has one in his collection. I sold it to him!
I think Tuna is pretty well on the mark as far as the value goes. Folks on GB ask for more, but almost never get their asking prices.
If not installed properly you could crack the cylinder then the barrel was scrap. The proper tools included not just a castle nut wrench but a threading tool for removing the staking on the side of...
Both Tuna.....Both!
IP, the holy grail??? I don't think so. There are a lot of far more rare carbines than the IP. Start looking at the lineouts! Many of those are a lot less common than IPs.
I actually had a real one of those. It was complete with the scope. I finally sold it to a "museum". I paid $2500 for it many years ago. Those were the same scopes used on the 03 sniper rifles. Very...
You are disgusting! (Boy am I jealous!)
Be careful with that too. Sometimes barrel skirts were damaged in shipment and were ground down in order to be used anyway. Since it really made no difference in the proper operation of the carbine,...
Check the case length on those french rounds too. Some batches were a different length because french law change to prevent military ammo from being used and the cases were made a bit too long for...
Smell checker is fine, when it works. But we need grammar checker as well! (misspelling intended)
One of the biggest problems with subcontractors is that not all of them are known. Just because a particular maker is not known to have supplied parts doesn't mean that they didn't or that the parts...
I agree with Tuna. Only a small percentage of the parts sharing has ever been documented. While I see nothing that says that those parts were shipped to Winchester, I know of nothing that says they...
Loud? Short barrels and fast powder make for some real barks!
Remember that the carbine was designed to shoot into 4 inches at 100 yards. Most will do better, but that was the minimum accuracy...
It is unusual to find a dogleg hammer in a rebuild! Its you lucky day! go buy a lottery ticket.
Sounds like both are good shooters. Carbines are rated as 4 MOA firearms. So anything under 4 inch 100 yd groups is very good accuracy.
Not uncommon....
I suspect the barrel date is 12/43 not 2/43.
BTW, if you don't already know, MRT is Mildew Resistant Treatment. Helped stop the slings from rotting in a jungle environment.
I believe Springfield Armory experimented with cast parts for the carbine. It could be one of those.
$600 is a tiny bit high, but not out of the question. I agree with the $550 level. If he hesitates, offer to split the difference.
S, T, U and AO are also receiver subcontractor markings.
The only things I see wrong with those carbines is that they are in your cabinet instead of mine!
Do not walk away from this carbine....RUN! It has been thru rebuilds. The rear sight is a poor fake. It has been reparked. It has had an adjustable sight on it. ETC...
It has a single pin in the pommel. Originals had two pins. That is the give-away.
