$50 for a sight base is ridiculous, you can get a nice complete USGI Garand sight for not alot more than that. I have complete mint Garand sights with some NOS parts for $80

Prices have never been lower on USGI parts. No reason to buy reproduction when you can have the real deal for a few dollars more
When originally manufactured they were very tight, the cylinders were actually pressed on.
Don't believe everything you read...………………………..
Arsenals did repair stocks . Take a look at this one. Lock up must have been loose as wood was removed , an piece added glued and nailed in place. Also a section of wood was cut out and replaced at...
Need to remember nit all Greek Returns were refinished
Original finish can range from gray to black. The one in the picture on the right "might " be so called greek black, its hard to tell from that one pic. Once you see it you wont forget what it looks...
No need to get upset because we don't agree with you. Just because you saw it discussed before doesn't mean it was correct information. This is a place for everyone to learn
Agreed, either stamped or left alone and nothing done
yes but I do not believe any were ground off and restamped. They were only etched A if two rifles with same serial were together, otherwise there was no reason to.
All was done was the letter A etched at end of serial.

I have one but not near as nice condition as yours
Thanks for posting pics
Here is a picture I copied from somewhere. See how the repro gas screw cut is recessed and the USGI is level?...
Don't know if you are looking for USGI or reproduction. Don't pay USGI price for a fake. If you don't know how to tell the difference I can send you pics. You also cant go by the internet myth that...
Sorry missed that, personally I wouldn't have paid that much for a "D" with no assecories . By the time he builds it hes going to have more in it than he could have bought a complete documented "D" ....
Heres alittle eye candy for you

As already stated M1D's are easily faked or basement built without documentation they are worth no more than the sum of parts
Those are DCM rifles which are the real deal
Except those also could have had parts swapped
This is the reason DCM NM rifles bring much more $$$ than CMP NM rifles
CMP NM rifles were loaned to the Greeks, then returned, who knows what parts could have been changed while in their hands
DCM NM rifles were from storage then sold, you know you are getting a legit...
CMP sold NM rifles are not the same as DCM sold rifles
Don't need anything more than your fingers and a punch

So what was this fix or there was no fix. Rifle just wasn't greased?
