Doesn't that SN put the receiver around 1886?
I came across an interesting Model 1888 today.
Nice boxed 1891 cartouche on the stock.
Struck me as a regular 1891 round rod bayonet Model 1888.
But, the SN on the receiver is 335665.

I have received and at least partially digested my copy of Wolf's Loading Cartridges for the Original 45-70 Springfield Rifle and Carbine.
I am leaning towards the 500g load to match my Buffington...

The bullets are not keyholing at 50 or 100 yards--nice round holes.
