1F is for artillery (think 1" and larger) and 4F is for priming the pan in flintlocks.

There are 3 types of front barrel bands. There is only one type of bayonet lug and it's on the 3rd type of barrel band so there technically isn't any "difference" between bayo lugs.

Smokeless powders are classified as "Propellants". Black Powder is classified as an "Explosive". HUGE difference. In a fire, HOPEFULLY the can is soft-soldered. If so, the solder will melt (in...
Picked up some 178 ELD's and IMR4350 yesterday to try at the match next month. As usual, I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Camp Wolters is where my father had his basic in '41.
Yes, I'm an SMGC member. I'm the one with the DI hat with Infantry hat cord.

Shot a 600 yard match last weekend with my '98 Krag rifle. I used to shoot my 03A3 but for some reason the USMC has recently banned 30-06 from this particular range so I am trying to find something...
Sunray,
Thanks for correcting me. I guess I had a senior moment and left out the key word.
Jon
It's anyone's guess as to how it got there. ANY firearm in British posession has to be proofed and stamped as such. It probably got back to the states through some exporter/importer.
Jon
I'm not surprised that it's gone. Every time I went there, there were no new postings and the "newest" postings were several months to a few years old.

Really???
Let's see:
7

700
7000
70000

Looks to me like there are are a whole bunch starting with a 7.

Any thing more to tell him?? Hell YA!!!!! How about some PICTURES!!!!!
Jon
Just checked and Graf and Sons still has it in stock. It's almost a buck apiece but at least they have it.
Jon
Yes they are wide and shallow. The groove depth is only about .006" deep--that's about the thickness of two sheets of lined writing paper.
Jon
JB,
Which is the "King Screw" on a No I Mk III*?
Thanks
Jon
How about...."A historic........". It is "AN" historic whatever, NOT A historic whatever. Look at Canfield's Garand tome. EVERY "A M1" should be "AN M1". It's simple elementary school spelling and...
My one and only M1 carbine is an Irwin Pedersen. When you already have the Holy Grail the others just pale in comparison and the addiction is beaten. And yes, it is a shooter. I don't believe in...
The "Tilt Test" is waaaaay over-rated. I have 4 M1's. Of the 4, 2 don't pass the tilt test. Of the 2 that don't pass the test, 1 of them is the most accurate of all, and I'm talking 10-ring accuracy...
Need pics. From your vague description I'd tell you about $50 for the butt stocks and $15 for the hand guards.
Jon
Commercial stock. WWII trigger guard with SERIOUSLY deformed locking lugs. I just can't into that silver-gray finish. Other than that, nice rifle.
Jon
Just like the myth about the enemy waiting to hear the ping so they knew the rifle was empty. If you've been in battle, you know you couldn't hear it any way. Hell, in the heat of battle you'd be...
Not totally correct, but not wrong. A non-serrifed F is IHC, whereas a serrifed F is late SA.
Jon
There's probably nothing you can do about it. Steel is a lot tougher than aluminum. Maybe you can sand or file off the high spots around the dings if they're causing malfunctions. Just sayin'
Jon
Could be that it still has its original dulite finish on it.

My late father was in the 503rd PIR in the South Pacific. Originally they were supposed to go to Europe. I often wonder, if he'd gone to Europe as originally planned, would I even be here today.
