Good evening Gentlemen,
I saw this offering on the upcoming James Julia firearms auction, but I don't think there is enough of a description of the rifle to determine authenticity - for example,...
Thank you very much for the comprehensive answer, cplnorton. That was just the type of information I was seeking.

Good morning/afternoon,
Did the Marines during WW2 procure their 1911A1's from the Navy, or were their pistols obtained through some other channel(s)?
Thanks for your time, in advance.

Good evening,
Here is a link to photos of the rifle referenced in two previous threads:

Thanks for looking (and thanks Mr. Beard for helping me add the link.)

Thanks for your explanation of "NRA Fine" condition, Mr. Beard; I'd been under the impression that that rating meant at least 90%, and my rifle probably fits into the middle of the range that you...
If for $2,500 is should be in NRA Fine condition, then I've overpaid. So now it's just a matter of weighing the other considerations you've listed with that rather stark fact.
Good evening,
I've started this additional thread because I thought the earlier one may be dormant, and I wanted to see if I could get some further input as to what may be the best course to take...
Just a quick follow up. In light of the replacement sight, would you gentlemen keep this rifle, though it is not completely original, or sell it in order to obtain the necessary funds to purchase...
Hi Rick. My use of the term "value" was a poor word choice on my part. I was really trying to get at how much having the wrong sight would detract from its worth from a collector's or aficionado's...
Thank you all for your responses, but one more thing.
Assuming, for arguments sake, that all other parts and components are correct, how much does having an improper sight assembly detract from...
Good afternoon/evening,
I recently purchased a 1903 Springfield manufactured in 1907 (serial #272,487, with barrel date of 1-07), which I believe has all the correct major features (worn blued...
Good evening,
The #5-marked drift slide on my 1907 vintage Springfield seems to have had the peep hole reamed out to the point where the hole is at least twice the size as it would have been...
That's an interesting thought about the stock possibly being cut from diseased wood, Southron. Some of the spots do look deeply imbedded, as if they'd been there in the wood blank before it was...
I started this new thread regarding the spots on my rifle to provide a link to photos (I tried to edit the title of my original thread, but the material added didn't show when viewed in the main...
Thank you all for your input. I've borrowed a camera and took some photos of the spots on my rifle, which you can see in the link below.

Hi, 11mm. The spots on my particular rifle appear to be from long ago, so I would expect nothing would remove them, short of sanding and refinishing the stock, which, of course, I wouldn't do.
Thanks for your advice, Dave in NGA, but I'm not really trying to address these spots; I'm afraid that if I did so, I'd be altering the history of the rifle. I was just curious as to what the spots...
I've noticed on some vintage military rifles that they will have dark, almost black, spots which randomly appear on the wooden stocks and handguards - I have a pre-WW1 '03 with a few of these spots,...
Thanks much for taking the time to post these photos, RCS. They provide a reference for appearance and condition.

It helps a lot, Mr. Beard.
Thank you!
Good evening, Gentlemen,
In Gun Digest's volume of Standard Catalog of Military Firearms, it states that the receivers on Springfield '03's manufactured between 1907 and 1910 would have had a...
Good evening,
Would rack rub marks (rub marks on the upper barrel, just above the front of the upper handguard) provide any hint as to the originality of a WW2 issued Garand?
The reason I ask...
Good afternoon,
When carbines were issued to the troops, did they come with magazines made by the same manufacturer of the weapons? Or would it be just coincidence that a soldier/Marine had...
