Try using high temp paint, should last a long time. Find a paint that could be used for an exhaust system on a car.

For the most part, spares are not needed. I believe originally the 1903 had a spare complete bolt guts that was stored in the stock.
Square cut recess would be for a RA stock. Round recess would be for an SC stock.
If you have an original SC stock, there will be sub-inspector stamp on the underside with a number inside a diamond,...

From the CMP Forum the barrels are showing readings in the Service Grade range. These are luck of the draw and what we see now might not be what you get later....
With the amount of pitting that is showing up on these, I'm assuming they are PI returns.....
