I recall office/admin types being referred to as Remington Raiders when I was in the service.
Over the years I have run into a number of .38 Super Colts that were altered to chamber and fire .38 wadcutter ammo. I have one now that had the chamber lined and reamed for .38 Spl cartridges to...

I haven't seen any comments on this one. The close ups of the roll marks is a bit foggy. Anyone here know anything about it?

That was Rock Island IIRC. Like you state the buyer is looking for a rare bird for his collection.
A nice correct one would be worth a good bit more than what's been bid. However, I'd like to see better pictures, the slide number (even though he states it matches the frame) and the barrel. If it...
According to Clawson, and personal observations, the lanyard loop MSH was omitted from the National Match pistol. The seller has added a notation to that effect.
Here's one I spotted on Gunbroker. Anyone see anything wrong with it?

Not that hard to find. Here's one on eBay:

Terrible reblue with lots of buffing mistakes. As mentioned the serial number has been changed. At $1200 the guy selling it must have left his mind. Too bad.
Joe, maybe a serial number if you can't improve the picture. I can't tell much of anything by it.
The trigger and magazine are both wrong and easy to replace the barrel could be easily explained as a replacement but it shouldn't that hard to get hold of an HS barrel in decent condition.
Turnbull apparently does a fair amount of business as there a appears to be an endless line of people wanting a pristine example of an old gun...for whatever reason. They do a decent job, in fact...

I've had several guns done by George in the past and have been completely satisfied with his work. I don't know what his turn around time is now but in the past it was reasonable.
Agreed. The Official Stamp is nothing more than a time received stamp that probably every clerk had on his desk. It's all baloney from what I can see.
Based on the lack of bids, I would say other people agree with you. Anomalies are interesting but, IMO, don't add a significant value to the gun. I think some people get a little too excited over...
Looks like a far Texas deal.
Not to mention the frame is a M1911 A1 type and that didn't start until the transitional pistols with serial No. 700001.
That and "what's my daddy's pistol worth..." and arguments afterwards when the poster is informed it's a refinished mix master shooter that isn't worth slightly less than the crown jewels.
Yes, FB...
And may put the nickeling at a date in the 50's, which makes this even more senseless
Not when you consider collector value back then wasn't anything like it's been lately. You could buy them...
Ah yes, the gas from Bubba's pharts adds a certain patina that often times fools collectors into thinking the gun has cold blue due to the rotten egg odor.
Do I detect a note of sarcasm there?
So were most local laws governing firearms ownership in general. You dad's pistol was made during 1916.
