I've noticed that on the "forgeries" the grinding is never a perfect "U" shape next to the knob. This "U" looks perfect to me, that's all I remember about it.
Hey musketshooter. Are those muskets in your picture? Or is that a gunstore?
Why is that Chuck? I've never read about them failing.
I noticed the X stamped on the bolt handle. My S/C's all have the X, some books say that is correct, and at least one book says no. What say you?
PS, I once bought a S/C bolt still in the...
Yes, I agree with Wolf, excellent info Cosine. I saw the smoothed-off serial number and it didn't even dawn on me that it was over-buffed. I wonder if that was done on purpose, as possibly was a...
Chuck, some of those breaks look really fresh. Are you sure you didn't have a bad day at the range??
Allen's right, Even when I'm shooting other calibers, I take one along and have it on my tailgate for everyone to drool over. Even though mine are all S/C 1940's vintage, most people call it a WW1...
Thanks kcw. I have Hoo1 and Hoo1mag. I really didn't want to tear apart the rifle to get tube out, but apparently I need to. I'll try one call to Henry, which I dread (I don't know why).
These...
I have two Henrys 22 and 22mag. Thousands of rounds and no glitches except pilot error and bad ammo. I really recommend these lever guns.
My grandson either loaded a 22 bullet backwards (it can be...
Exactly right, I just cracked a stock, which had hundreds of 150 gr shot through it, with no problem. But after one box of 180 gr the tang (which was touching the wood, with no air gap) cracked the...
Hi Bigern, Welcome to our little forum.
Would love to see pictures and serial number.
It's not easy to post pictures here, but if I figured it out-you can too.
Start with saving pic to...
FG, yes, no other bolts will go through the rear receiver ring without help from large rubber hammer. (I probably just voided the warranty from 1943). I tried 6 bolts from rifles and 10 bolts from...
very nice pictures. Can't believe all those nice rifles will never be fired again.
I don't remember a Tom Jackson. Must have been before my time.
Right Chuck!, I just grabbed it out of the trash for more pictures for mhb. Now it is back in the trash. The fact remains that a "no go" gauge closed on this bolt. The rifle headspaces OK now, even...
I think we've taken over the original poster's post. My apologies to Marine from Virginia.
Photo 1. Modified bolt rides against the rear receiver ring. No gap. (ejector is removed for photo)....
Thanks fg, Ya, I know what it's called, but I'm thinking of new people who would be lost like I was for so long, before I bought books.
Problem is not the screws, they do not extend through....
Thanks guys. I have removed the questionable bolt. I went through my bolts and installed another one (S/C). It is very hard to get it through the tunnel. No other bolt would go through the tunnel,...
`My gosh!!
--The FIRST rifle is a correct SC, not modified. I pulled out of my safe, has the "square safety lug",and it has a "huge gap" between rear of safety lug, and the...
Hey guys, on my hunting rifles (1903A3) the bolts are nicely modified for the scopes. The bolts "origin and vintage" cannot be seen because of the handle change. They could even be pre 1918, I'll...
Mine is 4 round tube. So maybe mine will work?
PS, I read that maybe you could unsolder the collar.
Mine has 18" barrel, 12 ga. Can I replace barrel with a longer barrel for skeet? Google said model 120, 1300 and 1400 were interchangeable, but I don't trust that because of the location of the...
Rick, does that also apply to S/C?
That's hilarious, i laugh-out-loud when someone says that.
