Kar98a post-WWI sporter job. No wood? Too bad, might have been a nice stock.
Century brought in a pile of Mausers out of China around 1992(?), co-mingled were some '03's. They were mostly fair/poor condition and all needed new barrels. I bought a fair Mk1 '03 from that...
My NM does not appear on the SRS list. Not uncommon to find a real NM that is not on the list. JB could jump in.
The 1919 NM's came out of Rock Island? Springfield was involved in the Mark1 project and lacked the time for NM work. JB can add to this. Could someone discuss the 1919 NM's?
Need JB to jump in. I think it is not likely, but JB will know for sure. A real NM is worth that money, but I have my doubts.
kcw has nailed it. Be very careful about this chamber. Also, you might a post a picture or two on Milsurps.com, in the Mauser section . They have several excellent Germans, who know their Mausers...
The rear sight tell me somebody (non-military) has spent money on this rifle. Very likely you have a non-standard chamber. Interesting stuff, for sure.
Frosted bore? Say what? Scrapco is sitting on a pile old/beat Drill Rifles. Only the very brave/foolish do business with them. I quit on them years ago and haven't looked back since.
WWI Kar98a? No, BUT a good gunsmith can do the work and fit it. The barrel is a large ring and the Kar98a is a small ring.
Cope's Dist. has the same barrel at $39.95.
CMP has/had Scant Stocks. Bet bet is grab one and make it work.
Found in a house? As in VFW property?
Sounds like a Greek return. No idea about USMC use. Good chance it a US Army use. Stock is likely an 03-A3 stock and the proper stock is expensive. The right stock is going to cost $200.00...
Retired in 1939? I think all of the Marines who retired in 1938/41 were recalled to Active Duty. Too bad you don't have a name or service numvber. Might be interesting to try to look him up. I'll...
I asked Leon to handselect a Krag for me last year. My rear sight was busted and so was the handguard. But the bore is excellent and I took it to Phoenix for the CMP Games. I did its job OK, but ...
I have a nice Remington 2 groove barrel on my 7.62mm Chilean Mauser, good shooter. Also have a very nice Gew98 in 7.62mm. Long barrel, with a lovely blue job, I understand the Gew98's had the...
Not so sure as the photos are not clear. It may well be a vet bringback. Any import stamps on the barrel? The price is high, I would expect $500.00 tops.
No school drill rifle, beat up Butt Plate on nice wood?? Say what? This is a fraud, simply put. I pity the fool that buys that clunker.
Michael: Have you been able to determine if the headless cocking piece is custom or NM?
Chuck had done several jobs for me. Only the best work from him and very reasonable, too.
The whole story is a little odd. Vultee made high quality aircraft. So all of a sudden they make a piece of junk firearm? With junk parts with an odd serial number? Virtually unknown for 50 years?...
A correct Mk1 needs a 1919/1920 barrel. Not sure what you have. Chuckindenver is the right guy.
I guess that is simply the way of life. The NRA now has Dad Farr's '03. They do get sold off by grandsons and granddaughters.
Very interesting family. Has this rifle passed out of family hands?
