will a buffington rear sight fit a pedersoli trapdoor carbine
Doug, Not sure about the Ped. sight holes but the Buffington sight has a hole spacing of 1.995 center to center of the mounting holes. The Buffington sight uses screws special for it, and the barrel band for the Buffington is grooved across the top to allow the sight to lie flat. while the other sights use the dome head screws slotted or non-slotted so an M-1979 sight might be a better choice. As a note ALL 45-70 Springfield sights have the same hole spacing. Hope this helps.
Why would you want to put a Buffington sight on a carbine???
I suppose there are any number of reasons, starting with "why not?" Especially if you have one, and like it - ANY sight of the period provides WAY too much elevation adjustment, if that was the thought.
Because I want to have windage adjustment. My holes are 1.995 center to center. just have to worry about thread size

I'm sure finding the correct metric thread will be simple - getting the proper head shape, especially at the rear, may take some filing!
Well I suppose that's your choice, but you will also need to replace the barrel band as the one for the buffington sight has a notch to clear the windage adjustment of the sight Easier idea is to get some target practice and find out just where the bullets are hitting. You can then "aim off" to get a center hit
I went with the 1879 model sight
