Great Beauties From The Past

Evelyn Nesbit (the girl in the red velvet swing) was a model and sometimes actress. She was also the mistress of several very wealth and very powerful men. Two of them, spoiled rich boys Stanford White and Harry Thaw were involved incidents that led to the first "tiral of the 20th century"

One of them, Stanford White was married but he and his wife had an "open" relationship that allowed him to see other women. He was the fellow with the swing in an apartment in which he met Nesbit. Nesbit later became involved with Harry Thaw who she later married. Thaw bitterly resented White. One night in a spiffy restaurant Thaw walked up behind White and pumped several bullets into his head and back saying "you ruined my life" or possibly you 'ruined my wife."

Thaw was eventually found not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to a mental institution in Mattawan New York. Thaw eventually got out of Mattawan though he did not entirely avoid trouble with the law. He eventually moved to Virginia where he was viewed as a pleasant eccentric.

Nesbit continued to live a long and interesting life....
