I have an old spanish mauser in 7mm. The barrel is about 29" long and I'd like to have it shortened to 19 or 20 ". I think it would be handle a little bit better. Any thoughts on this?

Have had 7mm Carbines with that short of barrel. A lot of muzzle blast but handy.

Don't butcher a piece of history. Sell it and find one that is already sporterized, or one of the short Spanish carbines.

It's just a $90.00 gun. Stock was fire wood and cracked. Not much to save there.

I would question whether a Spanish Mauser (Model 1993?) in 7mm would really be worth the effort as a cut-down sporter. I have a 7mm Mauser sporter built on a Brno M98/22 action that I handload for and approach 270 Win. or 308 Win. performance. I don't think I'd want to do that using the earlier Mauser action. As far as muzzle blast goes, mine has a 19.5" barrel and it does bark a bit.
Many references limit handloading pressures to approx. 40,000 psi jus for those old-timers. 7x57 mms built on more modern actions can be loaded to much higher pressures and resulting better performance.

I would buy a FN 1930 short rifle or the 1935 carbine, both from Venezela and both in 7x57mm
