Well done memorial to a unit which fought and sacrificed.
We should all be remembered so well.

It's not uncommon for infantry units in Viet Nam to have long term casualty rates like that. My company, A/1-61 infantry, had 16 different company commanders while in Viet Nam. Seven were killed and eight wounded. One, Ed Vernon, had an arm blown off and was out of action from then on. The rest of us were treated in-country and went back. We were all wounded again. That's 22 Purple Hearts among 16 men.

At one time, I was at around 60% strength. I did not have a single NCO of the appropriate rank for the position he held, I had one platoon with NO NCOs, and one platoon led by an SP4.

That's why I hate the movie, "Good Morning, Viet Nam" -- there was a perfectly good E6 futzing around as a disk jockey when we were so short of leaders in the field.

Would you want a spaz like Robin Williams to lead you?

I wanted an army that didn't have so many REMFs that they had to bring in other REMFs to entertain them.
