Hello,

I have a pristine 1917 Remington with all E marked parts and a 3 - 1919 barrel that's perfect. The gun has a 3-GM-K cartouche stamp in the wood on the left side of the rear stock are.

Does anyone know what the cartouche means because there ain't much info online.

Thanks

IIRC, it's a post-WWII inspection mark, indicating cleaning and repair prior to storage. I don't think anyone has found conclusively who/what/where 3-GM-K is. HTH.

I don’t believe anyone has pinned down that particular cartouche!

We’ve seen MANY posts with speculation, but nothing concrete!

Post WWI wasn't it?

And yes its normal to wonder about all of this as its part of the history.

You might take it down in more detail, seldom did they last through to WWII without some odd parts creeping in.

All the swivels, bands, front sight, bolt parts, safety, magazine, follower (?) trigger parts, release lever have markings.

I will try to find my links on the other machine.

You can find the ID stamping location for each M1917 part at www.m1903.com. Look on the left column for M1917 Parts.

I read on one of the forums that "3-GM-K" is a post war General Motors overhaul / inspect stamp.

Discussed before for years, search the forums, and above is the answer.

I believe correctly its a: US Caliber 30 Remington /Winchester or Eddystone Model of 1917, but then I am fine with P17, American Enfield etc.

We know what he is talking about.
