My commercial Colt 1911 has the heart shape cuts on the grip frame. I read these were frames made for military pistols that were not completed by the wars end and recovered back to civilian use at the wars end. If correct are these rare? any added value because of this?
Thanks.

Not really rare, but another variation. You might check the top of the receiver flat to see if it is stamped with an S or a G (S for civilian sales, and G for government contract.) Colt never threw anything away, and when production of the Government Model was resumed in 1946 most of the parts were left overs from the military contract.

It has the G mark.
