I have traveled the world looking for cheap Cuban cigars. Even the Dominican counterfeits are expensive. The fort/museum at the top of the hill in Halifax is quite interesting. The restaurants near the waterfront are excellent, and the prices are reasonable. The natives are friendly. I was there for four days after 9-11.

When I was there about 15 years ago they had a WW2 corvette museum ship that was used for convoy escort. Really interesting to visit. Great city BTW. At least the last time I was there.

I think that the other respondents have mentioned the top three places to visit: the Citadel, the Historic Properties as they are called on the waterfront and the Corvette. Basically, you can meander along the waterfront and try some of the restaurants and visit the corvette and if you want to see the Canadian equivalent of Ellis Island you can visit Pier 21. Allow me to suggest that you try the local brew (Keith's) - my favorite beer, particularly now that we can get it in Ontario.

When I was last there, there was a Casino on the waterfront near the historic properties but I think that they were going to move it a few blocks away. I also recall that there were several good restaurants on the street that parallels the waterfront and that they were better priced than the ones right on the water. The restaurant that I really liked was called McKelvies at the corner of Prince and Lower Water St. They had the best fish and chips that I ever had

Finally a good thing from Obama -

You can now bring back cuban cigars - quantity allowed "for personal consumption" - I brought back a full box from Jamaica - detailed on customs form - no questions asked

"...and Cuban cigars..." You going to sell a kidney? Friggin' things run over $20US each.
Some place called Sievert's at 1573 Barrington Street. Downtown Halifax. No web site. It's a smoke shop.

It's been a few years since I was there , they used to have a land/sea guided tour on a Viet Nam era LARC-V amphibian ,
that started with a street tour of the waterfront area then a leisurely cruise , it takes an hour or so.
A good way to see some sights you can't see from land and to learn a little history of the area, I enjoyed it

"...had a WW2 corvette..." HMCS Sackville was found in Brazil 35 plus years ago. One of the Navy guys in TO dinged me for a contribution away back when.
