Howdy:

This is my first post. I have been a life long collector and collected mostly Winchester lever actions but also post Civil War martially marked U.S. long arms. I am currently focusing on the Springfield .58/.50 caliber rifles & carbines as well as the .45 caliber arms. Also close to putting together a nice display of the Model 1892/1899 Krags with accouterments.

I just picked up a copy of Wendell Grandgaard's book "Documenting the Weapons Used at the Little Bighorn" and learned that the various Cavalry units were issued limited Model 1873 rifles in addition to their carbines for sharpshooting work. I believe that I may have one of these guns as it is marked with a "5" and an "A" on the wrist along with a rack number of "47" on top of the comb near the butt plate. I would like to send some detailed pictures to any member who may be able to help me verify that identification.

Let me know if anyone has an interest and I'll send my e-mail address along with detailed photos.

Thanks...

Rick
