Five K98k.s, matched vet bring backs. All purchased at LGS in late 50's early 60's. Top: is S/42 1936, made the rounds thru a small bunch of 'gun friends' and ended back with me years later. Even John Sukey owned it for a spell. Second: is S/42 1936 about 1000 numbers higher then top one. Third is a Banner, 41. Forth: byf 42 Fifth: byf 44. (Top one has been lightly sanded and finished. Some of the others have a light coat of finish also but no sanding. Candy for your eyes. 32941

Bought a mauser in 45/70, has a navy arms bbl. which is 18 inches in length. Have yet to shoot it, but when I do the first couple rounds it will be tied to a tire.

Yes sir it is. The crest has been polished off, but a weird looking mo66 ( they could be cryptic ? e's ). the previous owner has gouged out the fore stock with what looks like a dull pocket knife. It rests in a modern made stock. will wait until stock is rebeded to shoot it. if it works out I will make it my close range hunting rifle. still has a straight bolt handle.

Some very pretty rifles in the first post... ones in that shape are seldom seen around here now.... congrats on the fine collection sir.

On the Siamese Mauser converted to .45-70... if it was done properly, you have acquired a very nice medium bore rifle.. with good hand loads, it'll be suitable for any game on this continent.

Very nice. Your house (inside) must look like a museum. You either have a very understanding wife, divorced, or she has an equal or greater amount of jewelry, shoes and handbags.

What codes and years are your 98ks?
My first K98k was a byf 44, bought in 1953 from an uncle who had brought it back, to use as a deer rifle. It has long since been retired (5 yrs later I replaced it with a G 43 semi auto) since it was all matching/sling, hood & rod. It sparked an interest in WW 2 German guns that long ago got completely out of hand.
I now have about 60 K98ks (ar, bnz, u. ? codes) and around 15 G u. K 43s. Not to mention 60+ P.38s and a bunch of other stuff.
Them darned German gunz is just plain addictive!!!

It is the latter (and the first), and I was a gun collector when we married 61 yr. ago, so she knew!

Starting with second pic.; bnz 43 single 'rune' - ce 42-Norway, 42 1940-147 1940-dot 44--243 1939 - BSW 1939 Lufwaffaw- 243 1938 -147 1938 -Banner Chinese contract issue to North Sea fleet (German)- 42 1938- S/42 1937- S/27 1937- S/42 G- Danzig 1916 conversion- Portugal 1941 HEER issue.
I only collect model 98 Mauser's, FN, Czech, Yugo and German made, plus many older model sporters that appeal to me, and .22 rifles that I like. "A man has to know his limitations!"
