Did the army ever seriously test the R-K? I'm not sure that they did, though apparently the Navy had a few on trial at one time.

With my pocketbook-imposed "Springfield only" rule (and the fact that they happen to be among the ugliest guns ever made!) I've not followed the Remington-Keenes really closely, though I have seen/handled a couple of the "USID" carbines over the years. Great documentary photo. Too bad that something has really attacked the emulsion - glad it has been digitized so as to avoid being lost altogether.

A little googling turned up some information(who knows the validity)-

"In July 1880 the United States Department of the Interior purchased 600 Frontier Model carbines with 24 in (61 cm) barrels to arm the Indian Police on a number of reservations in the western United States."

As far as I know beyond a sample sent to the 1878 Magazine Rifle Board which rejected it in favor of the Winchester Hotchkiss the Army never had trials with it
