Thanks for that list, many of the movies I would have never guessed had a trapdoor. But I'm really surprised "Springfield Rifle" with Gary Cooper isn't there.....it was set during the Indian War period and totally based around the trapdoor. Been a while since I've seen it but was a very good film.

I recall-Through A Glass Darkly-a 1967 movie titled "Any Gun Can Play" with Edd "Kookie" Byrnes. I can see a scene showing soldiers firing their Trapdoors. Also in "Rough Riders" there is a scene showing Dale Dye as Colonel Wallace A. Downs rallying the 71st New York, they carried Trapdoors.

I just watch Rough Riders last night, very good movie. I liked Sam Elliot as Bucky O'Niel, but I was not sold on Tom Skerrit as Teddy Roosevelt, believe it or not, I like Robin Williams as Teddy and think he would have done a great serious rendition had he been given the chance.

I just finished watching that too. I was a little let down on how they portrayed some of the characters especially Roosevelt. I watched a documentary on the Spanish American War. It was ok . There are a couple more on netflix I can rent.

An unconventional cinema use of the 'trap-door' was as 'prop' flint-lock muskets in the movie "Culloden", a 1964 BBC documentary by Peter Watkins. It covered the 1746 battle in a 'You are there' News Report format.

"The Horse soldiers" with John Wayne, using trapdoors and the Southern charge from the boxcars carrying a various muzzle-loaders.

Wasn't it Tom Berenger as Roosevelt? He is quite the History buff, I hear

FYI, Rick, Martin B. Retting, Inc. is right down the street from the MGM Studios in Culver City, CA.

Thank you Tom and I was told it was from MGM so that would make it more probable. Rick B

"Red Badge of Courage", lots of trapdoors in that one, various models, as well as some rifle-muskets (M1863, P1853 Enfield etc.).
