I have a 6M M1 that appears to be an unmolested Type I NM. Story that came with the rifle was that a retired Army Col. bought it at the nationals at Camp Perry-but I'm not sure what year.

What are the chances that the CMP would still have the sales record for this? I'm wondering if I should send in the $$ and have them look, but if it is a low probability long shot, I don't want to waste their time on a goose chase.

If there are any enterprising researchers that have access to SRS, or Canfields new book, the serial # is 6099074.

TIA

In 1999 I was able to get a letter from CMP documenting that their records showed in bought M1 NM Rifle #6095050 at Cp. Perry in 1958. I would bet they will have the records on #6099074. If you will email me the name of the retired COL I will check the 1958 Match bulletin to see if he is shown to have fired that year. There were 1,779 hipower shooters at the Nationals in 1958 so it is unlikely that I would have known him.

I also had a NM verified by the CMP. I think there is a very good chance they can confirm your rifle.

^^^^

Thank you guys for the feedback. I'll send in the check with the request.

And thanks to Herschel for the offer. If I knew the Col.'s name I would take you up on it, but it was liquidated via an estate sale and I never got his name...

Rick, Wrong Herschel. I was a the Nationals in 1964 but fired in t he High Power Rifle Matches. I believe I got some leg points there but my scores were not newsworthy.

When you purchased your rifle at Camp Perry were you able to take it with you or did it have to be shipped ?? Thanks
