Hi all,
I was able to add yet another Springfield 1884 Rifle to my small collection, number 408534. :icon_lol:
Very faint, unreadable cartouche, unfortunately. Any reference in the lists? I'll post some pictures as soon as I have a chance.
Thanks, Hans

Is there anyone that has access to the SRS database who can help me with above rifle serial number?
Really would appreciate the help.
Thanks, Hans

Sorry to have not answered sooner. No listing - falls between 408474 and 408613. Statistically speaking, we should get one hit per every 20 queries, but it doesn't seem like they come anywhere near that often. Your cartouche should read SWP/1888. Just so happens - since I'm doing my book photography - that I have one right here from my positive cam rifle 415520. SA made some strange-looking 8s.

Some feedback please - which photo seems more appealing/informative/useful, etc? Ignore color, of course. I'd originally planned on the larger view, but the tighter shot still gets the point across. I have NO idea how anyone had the patience to produce anything for publication without a word-processor and a digital camera! Thanks.

Yes the first seems better. It makes Al and Bobs book one all the better to think how it was done.

Thanks. It takes a lot of time and effort to get decent photos, and I am NOT a pro, at all.

When I'm done, I will share some pics of my setup, maybe do an article somewhere on the subject. One thing I did find was that the hated curly CFBs are WAY better than the row of 100-watt bulbs I'd used earlier - the string of hot-spots along a barrel are a thing of the past.

Thanks Dick, really appreciate your effort to find something!
