I want to get a Lyman 17A front sight for my Mossberg 44US. I see that they come in different heights. Which height would be correct for a Mossberg 44US using the Mossberg rear sight?

Just measure the height of the original front sight and pick out the Lyman 17A sight that is the closest. The 17A comes in 3 heights. But keep your original front sight.

Where are the measurements taken from in order to compare to the 17A? I see that one of the 17A sight is listed at .584". Would the .584" dimension be from the center of the aperture to the bottom of the base?

I checked my 17A that is on my M44 with S100 rear sight. It shoots fine from 50 ft to 200 yards. The overall hight is .775 from the bottom of the dovetail to the top of the hood. I was told when I bought it that if I wanted to shoot at 200 yards that I would have to buy the shorter sight(.584 maybe?). But .775 works fine for me. I checked from bottom of dovetail to center of aperture and it comes to .500.
