I just took my 5 gallon bucket of scrap brass shell cases to the scrap yard. It surprised me that it weighed 50#. As I reload in the basement I've decided I will not let it get full again and have to lug it up the steps. Only got 45.00 but that's OK by me.:)

I hate to see brass or copper get thrown away. Dealers will usally discount your brass when buying due to other metals included. In your case the spent primers. Back when aluminum was bringing a decent price dealers would pay very little per pound sometimes on aluminum window frames because of traces of paint or caulk that added to the weight. I'm just rambling on and on, I guess what I'm trying to say is perhaps the primers and tarnish is why you didn't get the price you were expecting.

Most of them were berdan primed anyway. I wasn't concerned about how much I got for the brass as all of it was beyond reloading, splits, cracked and somewhat deformed. If I didn't sell it, it would go in the trash.

Joe you only got .90 a pound for it? A $1.35 here right now in my area.

I get $1.35 for yellow grass if I sell in 100 lb lots.

Price wasn't a issue and some had live primers from pull down I'm sure.

Bet that'll make the smelter happy. I swept some lead drops from my drippy pot off the floor and decided to put the drops back in the pot. One of the drops was a live primer! Then I had lots of little drops to sweep of the floor, and some to peel off the basement ceiling too! Luckily, they all missed me.

I have a metric butt-ton of Berdan primed M2 brass that I would like to get rid of... plus all of the excess brass from the Krag Charger production. I wonder how much I would get around here (Ann Arbor area)? Where do I take it?

Look under scrap metal dealers or even just metal dealers in the phone book. Most of these places that sell also buy.

Look in the phone book for metal dealers or for scrap metal.

I get $1.35/lb for lots as small as 10 pounds. I took 12 pounds last week.
