I have a Krag carbine, dated 1896 (serial #75050) that I posted about a week or so ago.
I've fired the Krag - the bore is shiny and nice. Now I want to do a restoration, at least a partial one.
On the way, I have:
butt plate and screws
reproduction saddle ring and bar
barrel ring spring
I was looking at a reproduction handguard. The problem will be finding the correct barrel ring, rear sight and front sight.
Are there any repro barrel rings, or rings from other rifles that might work?
Are there rear sights from other rifles that might work with the handguard?
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Battis,

Whatever you do, make sure the handguard is right for your stock and rear sight. Carbine wood is all over the place, dimensionally speaking.

good luck!

It's the short stock, so the only barrel band I think will work is the horned carbine band. DeChristopher has those for a lot less than you were seeing on ebay. http://www.tradenet.net/joede/ Front side studs, I believe are the same as the rifle stud and show up on ebay from time to time, and I would simply make myself a proper height blade, not worrying about the little "C" stamp. Because of the high cost of the 1896 carbine sight, unless you happen to run into one where the seller doesn't know what he has, a model 1896 rifle sight will work.

I just called tradenet about a barrel band they have - waiting for them to call back. Good site. Thanks.
The saddle ring is on its way. They said it's an exact copy of an original.

There's been pics of some nice 96 carbines posted on the Krag Collector's Forum recently.

If you want a real carbine, but one,
Much cheaper than creating one!

He has a real one that he got real cheap. Not the world's prettiest example, but a real one none the less.

Like I said, it's a real one that's been altered, and I want to restore it. Just looking for ideas and suggestions.

They have a barrel band at the lowest price I've seen. I'll give them a call. Thanks for the info.

The wound up with a lot of Bannerman's inventory I think. Only place I know to get original rivets for the Krag bayonet.
