SRS, model 1873

One of the mechanics I work with has a Model 1873 that have been cropped to carbine length and he was hoping to learn something of it's history. Serial is 456790.

Not a lot of point in checking SRS, as that is a pretty scrambled gun, but I will when I get a chance - the serial is at least in the general range of the last 5000 carbines made in 1889. But, that number would have had an 1884-dated block, and Buffington sight, so that has all been changed. The hammer is from a .50-70, and, as you say, the stock (showing early comb and wrist profile) has been cut, as well as having been hogged out to accept the post-1878 wide receiver. The swivel band is from an early carbine, etc. Sometimes even general, overall, pics can tell a lot. Should be a fun shooter, but zero collectible value.

ADDED: Not listed in SRS, and, while the "general range" comment is true, that number is surrounded by rifles.
