Hi, picked this up from my LGS. From the serial number I can tell it was most likely made in Sept 1918. The barrel also has a 9-18 date. I haven't taken it apart yet for cleaning but most of the parts are stamped E, except the cocking piece, which is R. The stock shows lots of wear (which I really like). The muzzle erosion measures 2. The bore looks good as does the rifling. Can you tell from my not so great pictures what the finish is? It appears to me to be polished blue. Could this be the original finish? Thanks.

While the original finish on 1917 rifles was bluing, yours appears that it has been refinished and reblued.

Thanks for the info! (Forgot this one)

So, someone reblued the metal but didn't touch the stock :-/ Do you think this was probably doneby a previous owner? It really shoots well! Should I just leave it alone or try to remove it? If so any suggestion as to how?
