A friend has a Nazi proofed, wooden box marked ERMA. It contains a .22 caliber, conversion unit for a WWII Luger pistol. Everything seems to match and all parts are in excellent condition. Each part has its own pocket milled in the inside of the box. He wants $800 for the unit. Is this too high, too low or about right?

I have never seen such a unit, and I go way back to after the war when vets were trading/selling such things. I have one for the K98k rifles and have seen several of those. They go for 600-1000 bucks (also Erma). I would think that is a fair price, if not on the low side, IF it is genuine. Do some research (books), call Simpson in Galesberg, Ill. they specliize in Lugers, check the internet.

Check out item # 310600005531 on E bay, a boxed post war kit. Also item 251217954591, appears to be a loose WWII kit.

I have seen them and I think they were priced in the ballpark you quoted. At this point if you want one, where are you going to find one? I've been collecting German stuff for over 10 years and I think I have only seen two, and I go to all the big shows. If I was offered one at that price and wanted one, I would buy it.

If you pass on that let me know. I have a friend that has been looking for one.
